Whether you are a blogger or just want to promote your product or service through WordPress, your aim is to attract as many readers as possible. If your web page only consists of text and zero images, then it will ultimately leave your readers uninterested. To avoid that, you can use different plugins and make your content more fascinating.
One of the most popular and reliable plugins among them is Slider Revolution. This plugin allows you to add multiple photos and sliders to your WordPress page. You can make your web pages alluring by adding different sliders, hero scenes, and even a completely customized front page.
One of the best things about this plugin is that it keeps on updating and add new features with every new update. In their latest update, you get loads of new features including new add-ons, never seen before animations, multi-level letter-spacing and many others. Apart from that, if you want to make your content look more advanced and interactive, then you can also add 3D parallax effects with mouse controlled viewport movement.
There are some of the WordPress plugins that work perfectly on desktop devices, but fail to show their true potential when it comes to smartphones and tablets. This is not the case with Slider Revolution. This plugin works seamlessly on most of the devices including desktops, tablets, notebooks and smartphones. Along with all these features, Slider Revolution doesn’t compromise the security of your WordPress website. This plugin is audited by the Dewhurst Security’s professional researchers on a regular basis. There are tons of features included in this plugin, but many of the people don’t know how to get the best out of it.
Here is a quick guide on how you can setup your Slider Revolution on your WordPress website.
Creating a New Slide
Begin by installing the Slider Revolution to start working on it. After you have installed the plugin, you can see that it can be seen on your WordPress dashboard. In the first step, you will have two options. You can either choose from the demo slides or you can create a fresh slide.
To create a fresh slide, you have to click on the ‘Create a New Slider’ button. After clicking on that button, you will see a window in which you have to give that slider a name, alias, and shortcode.
Afterwards, you need to set the type of the slider. You can choose from three different slider types. The Standard type which is the basic type, the Hero Scene which only consists of one slide, and the Carousel Slide which encompasses an extensive range of carousel views.
Setting-Up the Layout
There are three types of slide layouts named as Auto, Full Width and Full Screen. In Auto layout, the slider itself chooses the width as per the HTML container, allowing it to be synced in perfectly. The Full Width layout stretches the slide to the complete width of the screen. The last one is the Full Screen layout which fills your screen with the slider.
You also have advanced layout options to make your slider even more customizable. In Auto and Full Width layout options, you have four customizable choices, and that is Overflow Hidden, Respect Aspect Ratio, Minimum Height and Maximum Width. The Overflow Hidden option will eliminate any overlapping elements of the slider and is majorly used in Carousel Sliders. The second option is the Respect Aspect Ratio which is used to let the slider go beyond the max height by restricting the Layers Grid option. The other two options are the minimum height and maximum width which sets the minimum height of the slider so that the slider certainly doesn’t go too short and the maximum width of the slider so that the slider never crosses that limit respectively.
Different Slider Settings
After you have set different layouts, you will see various settings on the right side of the screen. There, you will have General Settings, Google Fonts, Position, Appearance, Spinner, Thumbnails, Mobile Visibility, Navigation, Alternative First Slide and Troubleshooting. The General Settings include delay times in which you can set the duration of each slide, shuffle mode to set the order of the images or to present the images randomly, and stop slider after a specific number of loops.
If you want to use custom Google fonts, then you can use Google Fonts settings which assist you in adding the fonts of your choice to your slide.
The Position setting is used to set the position of the slider on the web page and edit the top, middle, left and right margins of the slider.
You can add shadows to your slider from the Appearance settings. It has different types of shadow types, background colours, option to show background image and whether you want to show timer line or not.
If you wish to choose a specific first slide for a limited time, but don’t want to edit the whole slide again, then you can choose an alternative first slide which will appear when you wish. You have to toggle this option whenever you wish to have the alternate slide to appear first.
Adding New Slides
Once you are done with the settings of the slider, it is time to add slides to your slider. You have two options to add slides. One option is to add a picture for the background of the slide and other is that your leave your slide transparent. Once you have added the slides, you can edit the slides through the Settings option.
In this section, you can set different options for every individual slide. You have to click on edit slide, and you can see different settings for your slide. You can set the transition effect, the duration of the transition, and custom thumbnail for the slide.
Adding New Slide Layers
In this step, you need to add new slide layers to your slider. Firstly, you have to click on the add layer button where you will see a drop-down offering different options including text/HTML, Image, Audio, Video and much more. If you want to put a description on the layer, then click on the text/HTML button, and the same process goes with other options as well. You can use the drag and drop feature to position your text, and you even have an option to edit your text style.
You can add links to your text by selecting the background colour of the text and add a link to the text. After you add the link, you have the option to add the layer animations where you can select the layer animation entrance and departure.
If you wish to add an image layer, then follow the same procedure, but instead of choosing the text option, select Image. After that, you will have an option to either choose from your media library or to upload a fresh image. Once the uploading is done, you can resize the image and position the image as required.
Uploading video layers is a bit different from image layers. Unlike image layers, video layers have three different options that are YouTube, Vimeo and HTML5. The process for adding YouTube and Vimeo videos is same – you have to put YouTube or Vimeo video URL or video ID and click on the search button.
The database finds the video; you confirm the video and set video size, positioning and the transitions. In HTML5 videos, need to add image URL and video URL and make sure that your video is in MP4 format.
Saving All the Changes
This step is the most crucial step among all as you can lose all your work in a tick. Ensure that you have saved the slider every time you make a change to avoid any trouble later.
Adding the Slider to Your Web Page
After the creation of the slider, it is time to add that slider to your web page. Shortcode Method, Quick Shortcode Method, and Visual Composer method are the three quickest ways to add sliders.
As the name describes, this method will make use of the shortcode which you created while making the slider. Copy that shortcode and paste it in the page’s main content area and the slider will be added in no time.
Quick Shortcode method is one of the simplest ways to add the slider. Simply go to the page’s main content editor and click on the Slider Revolution icon. There you will see your created sliders. Select the desired slider and click on Add Selected Slider.
In the Visual Composer method, you will require a Visual Composer plugin. Follow the same procedure of going to the page’s main content editor and click on Add a New Element button. After that, click on the Slider Revolution image and you will receive a quick shortcode to add the slider.
The Slider Revolution is an easy to install and reliable WordPress plugin. It has a lot of customizable options and comes with free add-ons as well.
